Hello, does anyone here perhaps have the rooms mentioned in the title in their house? We would be interested in pictures, specifically regarding the feeling of space in terms of coziness and lighting conditions. There are many pictures available online of rooms with vaulted ceilings and low knee walls, but unfortunately not of rooms without knee walls.

Thank you very much

The knee wall is culturally becoming less popular in construction.

Why is this actually the case?
For what reason, when it is presumably significantly more cost-effective than a short wall?

A knee wall is the exterior wall built above the ceiling of the top floor on the eaves side of a house, supporting the roof structure. It is a typical feature of purlin roofs. The higher the knee wall, the more usable floor space is available under the roof slope. Source: (unusually from me) Wiki

Because cutting back the roof slope reduces a lot of floor area in the attic. However, if you need to accommodate several usable rooms upstairs, the ground floor footprint must be correspondingly larger. Nowadays, many plots do not allow for that (due to cost, size, or availability). This can also lead to an imbalance in room distribution between the ground floor and attic (too much space downstairs, too little upstairs).

For what reason,
# because roof trusses are designed differently today than in the past / # because cross gables and knee walls fit together just as poorly as dormers and knee walls / # because the spaces "beyond" the knee walls complicate the closure of the thermal envelope in a problematic way ... ... ...

Please enlighten me about your assumption, as I cannot follow your line of thought at all.
