We have an open/large living and dining area and would like to subtly separate it with a fireplace. On both sides, there should be about 1m (3 feet) of space to walk through.

The dining and kitchen area is in the southeast, the living room in the southwest, and the fireplace is planned to stand between them. It should be floor-to-ceiling and about 1.50–2m (5–6.5 feet) wide.

Do you have any recommendations? We were considering steam or electric fireplaces, possibly ethanol. The Opti-myst Cassette 1000 caught our eye, but the Richen Zeus is noticeably larger and more affordable (electric instead of steam).

Does anyone have experience with which looks better visually? I am attaching a photo.

I find the water vapor technology more appealing than the technology behind the light displays, for example from Zeus.
Still, to me they somehow still look like fire in slow motion.

I have now seen a few videos using the "Opti Virtual" technology.
At least on video, it looks quite impressive.
Does anyone here have experience with it?

Gas or "real" fire. There are some nice see-through fireplaces. We had one in our last house as well (wood).
