Hello everyone,

Is there a current guideline for how high the finished floor should be above street level? Or what are your experiences—how many steps do you have leading up to your front door?

Thank you very much

We are just slightly below. No steps to the front door are planned, only a small ramp. This, of course, requires that we go deeper at certain points and can direct water around the house.

Our finished floor height is also about 15cm (6 inches) below sidewalk level. This is compensated with the parking spaces on our property.

There was no requirement for us. It was directly accepted in the building permit / planning permission application.

What does the development plan say about that?

Show us the house drawn onto the plot with elevation details.

We can’t give you any advice without that.

For example, I have three steps up. How does that help you?

In our case, the architect originally planned for 15cm (6 inches) above the curb, which is then adjusted for slope during paving without a step. The distance to the property line is about 6–7m (20–23 feet). A wise saying is, “You should look up to the house, not down at it.” In some building areas, this was not considered, and you can see the truth in this statement.

When it comes to height, also consider the sewage system if necessary. With a slab foundation, this is usually not an issue, but with a basement, a lifting station may be required.
