ᐅ Looking for a fingerprint access system for the garage and the connecting door to the house

Hello everyone,

perhaps someone has a similar situation and can offer advice. I haven't been able to find much information on this or fully understand the product descriptions...

We are planning a garage door and a connecting door from the garage to the house.

The garage door should be able to be opened from the outside using a fingerprint scanner. The connecting door should then be opened with a separate fingerprint scanner to enter the house.

How could something like this be implemented? It would be great if it was a system where you can program time windows, like with Ekey Multi.

I assume Ekey Multi with 2 scanning units and a multi-control unit could work. Or is it more cost-effective to use 2 separate systems?

Or is there another system you would recommend?
Regarding door and garage door manufacturers, we have not yet made a decision.

Thanks for your help!

So, our eKey components (3 sensors + control unit) cost around 1,400€ without installation and programming. It might be a bit cheaper since we are using the surface-mounted scanner including RFID at the front door.

Both doors are from Pieno. The front door is higher quality, the connecting door is the cheapest model without any extras (only with a motorized lock).

Of course, you need a suitable cable at each "location" of the scanners. Either the eKey cable or a network cable which then goes into the distribution box to the control unit. We chose a network cable to stay flexible in the future and possibly use other technologies later on. You might be able to use the empty conduit for the doorbell since the eKey cable is relatively thin. You should check that with your electrician.
There are also front doors with integrated fingerprint scanners, so you don’t need an extra cable. However, you can’t link that sensor with others; you have to program or enroll it separately every time.

If I were you, I would reconsider the whole concept. Having a fingerprint scanner on the garage or connecting door but none on the front door doesn’t make much sense to me. I don’t know your building project, but you probably won’t primarily enter the house through the garage, right?
I think the usage distribution in our case is about 80% front door, 20% garage. And I usually drive into the garage, for which I have my remote in the car. So there are only a few exceptions where I would even need the fingerprint at the garage (maybe if I came by bike...). And if I need a key for the front door, then the fingerprint on the connecting door doesn’t really save me much effort...
Also, fingerprint scanners without a motorized lock don’t make much sense because then you can only operate the door opener with the fingerprint, but you still have to lock and unlock with a key.

If money is really a concern, I would skip the garage and connecting door and instead install a fingerprint scanner plus motorized lock at the front door. We have the two fingerprint scanners on garage and connecting door more as a "nice to have" feature, just to keep the access system consistent.

Great, thank you.
I think we’ll try to speak with the electrician again next week to see if he can route the cable somewhere else. If that’s possible, we’ll ask him for a quote for ekey Multi for the front door and the connecting door. At the same time, we’ll ask the door manufacturer about the option “with motorized lock, but without integrated fingerprint scanner.” Let’s see if that works out better for us.

It would be great if you could update us later! We currently have exactly the same issue. We want to open the two garage doors keyless but want to spend as little money as possible on it. Ekey is already installed on the front door.

Hello,

how are things looking for you now?

Hi,
sorry, I forgot to write back earlier... So, we have now discussed the following setup with the door manufacturer and electrician we have selected:
The front door and the side entrance door will each have a fingerprint scanner integrated into the door. The garage door will have a fingerprint scanner mounted next to it. Everything will be controlled using the ekey Multi system. The control unit will be installed in the utility room.

The electrician will run network cables from each of these three locations to the utility room. We had already planned power cables for the doors.

The front door will have a motorized lock, and the side entrance door (which is basically a simpler front door) will have an automatic lock.
The difference between the motorized lock and the automatic lock is that the motorized lock applies strong pressure against the seal when closing, creating a tighter seal.
The total cost for both doors with the scanners and the ekey Multi system is just under €11,000 gross.
Front door €4,000 net
Motorized lock €850
Fingerprint scanner €370
Side entrance door €2,700
Automatic lock €350
Fingerprint scanner €370
ekey Multi control unit €440
The rest covers installation, small materials, and taxes.

The garage door will cost €1,800 plus €370 for the fingerprint scanner.

On top of that, there will be the cost of installing the network cables.

Hope this helps.

Sensible decision, that way you have a consistent concept. However, the scanners at 440€ gross seem quite expensive to me. What do you use?
