Retro_12626 Aug 2019 19:07Hello everyone,
I have a problem, but I think it’s manageable.
I installed suspended ceilings throughout the house and laid cables everywhere for the spotlights, so I can drill later to install the spotlights. Now everything is connected and the ceiling is finished, but I can’t find my plan showing exactly where the cables are located underneath.
Is there a detector that can locate the cables or check the wiring connections, or what is the best way to do this? Removing the ceiling again would be the worst option.
Best regards and many thanks

But does it recognize all the cables at once, or does it only detect the end piece with the Wago connector so that I can carefully drill the hole for the spotlight with the router?
Best regards

Finding the exact location of the Wagos (terminal blocks) is something a stud finder cannot do. But at least you should roughly know how you planned the spotlights, right? I would suggest redrawing the plan and then using the cable detector to try to locate the position of a cable. Then you’ll need to do a trial drill; if it doesn’t work out, you can replace those pieces again.
Normally, there should be some slack in the wiring, allowing for adjustments within a certain range after the cables have been installed.

There are probably also cables on the ceiling for other purposes, such as supply lines, which will also be detected.
What you need is a cable tracer, for example from Fluke, but they are not cheap and cost around €600 (about $650).
You might be able to rent one from an electrician, but not everyone has one.
I don't know of any detector specifically for Wago connectors, that would be ideal.
