So, after a few days of delays, things are moving forward again. Next week, I just received the email, is the topping-out ceremony. I’m supposed to have a bottle of schnapps and a glass ready, organize some soup, the foreman is bringing the ceremonial wreath, and then they want to celebrate a bit with us and our friends. It should be nice—Makita jobsite radio, a few cases of Flens beer, rum and cola mixes for the ladies, and since the structural shell is still clean, there’s no risk of getting dirty yet. The shell construction phase has its charm. I’m looking forward to it. I’ll have to tell my wife about it later at six when she arrives. Karsten

Offer whatever you want :-)

Why? Maybe the carpenters know why grain is traditionally part of the topping-out ceremony. At least that's the case here in our area.

At our topping-out ceremony, there will be two bottles. One to break and one to drink on the roof. Otherwise, I don’t need that stuff.

The roof is already roughly in place. Karsten

Update. They are heating up the place so that it will be nice and cozy and dry tomorrow. Karsten

PS. By the way, the master carpenter praises the Polish windows. Lots of metal in them, very sturdy, he says.

Someone from Stettin. I don’t know who. The construction company ordered them.

And – nothing on the label? – Often, these are licensed products from well-known German brands (so it’s not surprising if the foreman finds the quality acceptable).
