Hello everyone,

Our move-in date for the new build is approaching, and we are thinking about the final cleaning of the house before we move in.
The general contractor hands over the house broom clean, which is definitely not clean enough for us.
All floors would need to be thoroughly cleaned again, any paint splatters or similar marks removed if necessary, dust residues cleaned from all surfaces, and especially the windows cleaned both inside and outside, including the frames.

What have your experiences been with this before moving in?
Did you do the cleaning yourselves or did you hire a professional? If you hired a professional, what did you pay?

Best regards, Sascha_aus_H

Swept clean? Is that stated in the contract?

Yes, that is stated in the contract.

We complained about paint splatters and so on, and the painter came back.

Honestly, the painter is only starting at the end of the week, and I’m not sure what will be found – that’s why I documented it for now. But that’s a good point to raise any complaints.

To be honest, we don’t really feel like cleaning ourselves. It’s probably not the most complicated job, but it would take about two days, and I don’t want to deal with that. We’ll ask local cleaning services then – thanks for the suggestion.

The toom hardware store offers final construction cleaning starting at 70 euros. You might want to take a look at that. However, I think you have to buy the cleaning products from them. Karsten

Of course, you can have a professional clean it. But I would do it myself so I know it’s done properly. Besides, I would consider it a waste of money.

Isn't it actually the other way around? With a professional, you know the job is done correctly. And for me, my time with family and hobbies is more valuable than my money.

How to handle it is ultimately up to each individual to decide. I can only speak for myself, and I would prefer to do it myself.

I agree with 77.willo.
We are already busy enough with the move and related tasks, so I don’t feel like cleaning for two days.
The quotes we’ve received are currently between 400-700 euros, so we will definitely have it done professionally.
