Hello everyone,

Our move-in date for the new build is approaching, and we are thinking about the final cleaning of the house before we move in.
The general contractor hands over the house broom clean, which is definitely not clean enough for us.
All floors would need to be thoroughly cleaned again, any paint splatters or similar marks removed if necessary, dust residues cleaned from all surfaces, and especially the windows cleaned both inside and outside, including the frames.

What have your experiences been with this before moving in?
Did you do the cleaning yourselves or did you hire a professional? If you hired a professional, what did you pay?

Best regards, Sascha_aus_H

The final cleaning was included in the house price for us. Otherwise, I would hire a local cleaning service. Or continue with the EL [emoji6]

We had the company that also cleans our place weekly do it. They charged for two people working 6 hours each, at an hourly rate of 23 euros. That totals 276 euros. To be honest, it’s possible to manage it alone within that time since everything is accessible and no furniture is wiped down.

A final detailed cleaning was included in our case. If done properly, this can quickly cost more than 500 euros. However, the dust is then removed and does not settle everywhere for weeks.

Paint splashes

If you have time, you could report this as a defect and have the general contractor take care of it. Every trade is responsible for cleaning up their own mess. Of course, this does not replace the final cleaning. That can be outsourced or done yourself... We handled it ourselves after the broom-clean handover.

Swept clean? Is that stated in the contract?

For us, everything was mopped when the moving company arrived, but it was dirty again anyway.

We complained about paint splatters and so on, and the painter came back again.
