Hello everyone,

We are in the process of buying a house and are already planning the work we want to carry out.
To enlarge the bathroom on the upper floor a bit, we need to remove some non-load-bearing walls and replace them with drywall. We plan to install tiles and laminate flooring.

Removing the walls will create a gap in the screed (at least that is what I expect), which I want to properly fill and connect to the existing screed.
Can someone advise me on the correct way to do this? I don’t want a temporary fix that could cause cracks in the floor or walls later on.
Unfortunately, online sources often just suggest filling it with leveling compound.

I appreciate any tips you can provide.

Depending on how deep your gap is, add some dry fill and then the final 5 cm (2 inches) of screed concrete.
I also filled it with tile adhesive myself.
However, I can’t say if that’s professionally recommended.

Screed requires a minimum thickness of 5cm (2 inches). If this is the case, place a membrane underneath, slightly moisten the edges, then pour the screed and compact it well. If the thickness is lower, use a leveling compound. If the floor is going to be tiled, use only flexible adhesive. (Allow it to dry thoroughly)

Not directly in response to your specific issue, but for getting familiar with the basics, here is a current thread on a similar problem: https://www.hausbau-forum.de/threads/Erweiterung-der-estrichaussparung-kann-dieser-Estrich-abbrechen.26376

Year built 1992.
As mentioned, we are in the process of purchasing it and have a notary appointment scheduled in the next few days. We have not started any work yet.
I estimate the height to be about 6cm (2.4 inches). In the attic, there was no screed, but everything else was prepared. However, this has not been measured precisely.
