Hello everyone,

I hope this fits in well with the forum.

We need to remove a lot of soil from another area of the property and would like to use it to fill in this spot. We are not yet sure how high or how much we will fill; this is still being considered. Depending on how high we build up the ground towards the street, we might need to create 2-3 steps, but we would prefer not to do that since this path is often used to carry heavy items or wheelbarrows, so maybe it’s better to slope it gently instead?

Now to the actual question:

Along the house wall, there is a stone strip. How would you approach this? Would you simply place concrete blocks like in the photo on top of it, to create a gap from the wall?

We want/need to try to keep costs low.

We would really appreciate any tips or ideas.

Thank you
Martin

Green slope next to white residential house; window on the wall, trash bins and building materials nearby.

Well-maintained lawn with a slight slope beside the house wall; stones on the left, bushes on the right.

The stone strip... can it be concreted over? Does it need to remain open? That’s why I was thinking of just placing stones like in the first post on top of it...

It sounds like you want to get rid of the soil cheaply and don’t see the need to change the existing path.
So: advertise the topsoil for self-collection. We would gladly take it here in the Bergisches Land.

Huh?
1. Saarland is a bit far away.
2. We would LIKE to change the course by filling in the "hole" that has been bothering us for a long time.

I would probably do it like this.

Remove the existing lawn edging.

Fill the area with soil and compact it.

Reinstall the lawn edging.

Fill the area by the house with stones (like it is now) accordingly.

The only potential issue might be the windows, especially the upper one, since the stones already reach up to the windowsill there. If the soil level is raised above the windowsill, the lawn edging won’t work well due to its low height. Alternatively, paving slabs like the ones leaning vertically against the house wall at the bottom of the slope could be used.

These can project out further.

What are your thoughts on moisture?
As far as I know, the wall below the stones is protected by dimpled membranes and bitumen sheets, etc.
Would I need to do something further up as well?
