Since buying our house, I’ve been dealing with how to remove the textured fiberglass wallpaper.
I’m not sure if it can simply be peeled off, so I’m looking for alternatives. One option I came across is paintable plaster.
Does anyone have an opinion on this?
Will the paintable plaster stick to the wallpaper? Do you need to apply a primer?
The wall should be as smooth as possible; I don’t want to re-wallpaper.
Good luck

Will the skim coat adhere to the wallpaper? I don’t think so.

To remove fiberglass wallpaper, you will need a putty knife, protective gloves, sturdy garbage bags, masking tape, and, if sanding is necessary, a sander and a dust mask.
To protect the baseboards from damage, you can tape them off with masking tape where they meet the walls.
Using the putty knife, start by loosening the wallpaper at the bottom edge so you can pull it off easily. This will help you determine if you can remove the fiberglass wallpaper dry from the wall or if sanding will be required afterward.
Dry removal of fiberglass wallpaper:
Simply peel the fiberglass wallpaper off the wall in whole sections, or use the putty knife carefully to avoid creating unsightly holes.
Sanding:
Sanding tools can often be rented at hardware stores.
Always wear a dust mask during this process.
If this seems too labor-intensive, it is important to know that fiberglass wallpaper can be painted over multiple times (up to at least ten times). You can also apply a new layer of plaster over the wallpaper to either re-wallpaper or paint it.
