Hello,
we are planning to build a house on a sloped site.
The basement level is therefore partly above ground / visible from the slope.

We want to use brick cladding for the house.
From the lower side, the house will show three levels (basement, ground floor, attic).
If we use the same brick cladding on all three levels, we think it might not look very appealing.

We have been considering options to visually break up the facade.

Basically, we want to keep the ground floor and attic fully clad in brick.
We do not want vertical plaster strips running across multiple floors, or to plaster or clad only the attic, because repainting would then require extensive scaffolding again. This is one of the reasons for choosing brick, aside from the personal preference for it.

So far, our own ideas are:
- Brick cladding on the basement in a different color (lighter or darker? Would that make it look less massive or not help much?)
- Cladding the basement with natural or sandstone (we are unsure if it would look as good in reality as it does in our minds...)
- Using a cavity wall plaster finish on the basement (this would allow us to reach areas for repainting with a regular ladder, so the effort is limited)

This is roughly our idea for the brick color; the roof color will also be black, with wood cladding and window frames in white:

For the sandstone, we are thinking of something like this:

Does anyone have other ideas or maybe real pictures of similar solutions?
So far, I haven’t been able to find anything like this online...
I would be very grateful for tips, links, or personal photos.

Best regards
