Hello everyone,

We are currently building a single-family house with a gable roof in anthracite and anthracite-colored windows. The facade color is planned to be a classic white. However, I find this bright white (I believe it is called RAL 9016 "Traffic White") a bit too glaring.

Have you given much thought to the exact shade of white, or did you have options to choose from? If so, which ones? So far, the documents only specify "white" everywhere.

The facade consists of an external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS), and a colored decorative plaster will be applied as the final layer.

The garage and carport combination is also in white and anthracite, using Traffic White. Would you choose a different shade of white for the house itself (if that is possible)? Are there any visual or other reasons to prefer one white over another?

I’m curious if this was a topic for you, and what your considerations or advice might be. Thanks!

Do you think you can actually get paint in RAL 9016? Usually, or at least as far as I know, it’s more like 9010. This is due to the pigments; producing 9016 with permanent UV resistance is hardly achievable.

I need to find that out. I will still talk to the facade builder to see what is actually possible. I just wanted to get an idea in advance of the options available and their pros and cons.

Choose the white option at no extra cost. As light as possible. It will change over time anyway. Later on, it won’t matter if it becomes streaky or slightly greenish. It’s actually highly overrated.

Thank you, in the end there were only two shades of white :p I chose pure white, the other would have been cooler/brighter. But on such a small color sample, you might still see the difference, while on the large surface of the house wall probably not anymore. Especially considering that weathering effects will come into play in a few years.
