ᐅ Facade Paint – No Agreement in Sight...

Good evening everyone,
my husband and I have been discussing for some time now which color our house’s exterior should be. It is a single-story house with a (converted) pitched roof, with the eaves side facing the street. The options are:
1. “Standard new build color combination”: roof, windows (and front door) anthracite, facade white
2. Roof anthracite, windows (and front door) white, facade gray. Similar to the example shown (found on the Pinterest page of Contract Vario)

House with dark tiled roof, solar panel, gray facade, wooden terrace, and garden furniture.

Here are the advantages I identified for both options:
1: More premium appearance?
Standard look, generally preferred? – Higher resale value?
Dark front door less prone to showing dirt
2: Cheaper (white windows cost us about 20% less)
Facade may appear cleaner for longer?
Windows don’t heat up as much (popping/cracking – which we experienced in our last house with dark windows)
More eye-catching look

What are your thoughts?

So, we have a red roof like that, and it hasn’t gotten dirty even after three years. Otherwise, I like what’s shown, but a gray base strip would look better with it. This house also needs a larger roof overhang. Otherwise, it looks too much like it’s from 1955 to me.

Yes, I wouldn’t say that red roofs look dirty faster. But honestly, I’m not completely sure.

Yes, the example image would still need a foundation base. But if the creator doesn’t want brown, I understand.

But doesn’t a dark roof also get dirty quickly if moss or something grows on it? See the older neighboring building in the background.

No, definitely not as quickly as a red roof. We built our first house 18 years ago with red brass roof tiles, supposedly coated with some kind of “Star-something” finish to protect against moss, dirt, etc. After about 5 to 10 years, it started to get dirty. Other roofs in the same new development that are anthracite look much better. Now the red roof is really dirty, and for our second house we chose a glossy burgundy roof. We would have preferred anthracite, but that wasn’t allowed.

Best regards
Sabine

As mentioned, copper tape should prevent moss growth. This also reduces dirt buildup, and the rain should take care of the rest.

A burgundy roof would also suit the example picture.

Anything but white windows.
I really can’t stand that. My neighbor just replaced the old (brown aluminum) windows with white uPVC windows. It looks really cheap.
Anthracite isn’t exactly a stroke of genius either, but it’s still better.
Facade color snow gray with a hint of lilac.

How about a green roof?

@fragg is there a photo somewhere?
