Good evening everyone,
my husband and I have been discussing for some time now which color our house’s exterior should be. It is a single-story house with a (converted) pitched roof, with the eaves side facing the street. The options are:
1. “Standard new build color combination”: roof, windows (and front door) anthracite, facade white
2. Roof anthracite, windows (and front door) white, facade gray. Similar to the example shown (found on the Pinterest page of Contract Vario)
Here are the advantages I identified for both options:
1: More premium appearance?
Standard look, generally preferred? – Higher resale value?
Dark front door less prone to showing dirt
2: Cheaper (white windows cost us about 20% less)
Facade may appear cleaner for longer?
Windows don’t heat up as much (popping/cracking – which we experienced in our last house with dark windows)
More eye-catching look
What are your thoughts?

@Müllerin At least my husband and I agree on this: we don’t like a red roof.
@tumaa Brick veneer is not an option for us. I’m not sure if it’s even allowed or if it would be possible with external wall insulation. For me, there is nothing better, but tastes differ ... so you’ll probably have to fall back on the "standard combo."
All the best!
Thank you!
I guess I have to be the one to give in on this topic and settle for the boring standard option. Thanks to your feedback, at least I know I’m not alone with my idea of a gray facade. Unfortunately, all the male friends prefer the standard combination, so it would be even harder to convince my husband. Maybe we can still stand out with a special front door, for example, one with a wood (look) finish.

loud colorYes, I've thought about that too. They often do it on those American renovation shows. The tricky part is how much the husband goes along with it.Pinky0301 schrieb:
2. Anthracite roof, white windows (and front door), gray facade. More or less like the example image (found on Contract Vario’s Pinterest page)I find white windows more attractive, cheaper (when combined with a non-white exterior color), and not as boring. In my opinion, they also look nicer than the standard 2019/20 house (white/anthracite).
