ᐅ Facade design: Is there a consultant available for this?

Hello everyone!

We are planning to have a single-family house built by a local solid construction contractor. Our planning is already quite advanced, and the builder has now provided us with perspective images showing the exterior of the house. Now that we have these visualizations, we are not satisfied with the views. The construction company is good, but not very skilled at designing something attractive.

We have already looked online and found many websites listing thousands of options for elevations, front doors, canopies, and similar elements. The sheer amount is overwhelming! What we need is not 1,000 suggestions, but one solution that fits our house!

Ideally, we want someone knowledgeable about building and design who can take a look and then propose how all the components (window placement/size/color, front door materials, type of canopy, exterior color scheme, roof covering, etc.) can be harmonized.

Normally, this would be a job for an architect, but hiring one in the traditional way is quite expensive. We are looking for someone who offers this as a flat-fee service, practically a style consultant with expertise. Does something like that exist? When it comes to building supervision, you can also bring in external specialists who provide services for a fixed price.

Has anyone had similar experiences?

designing the facade is really challenging. The problem is that in reality it always looks quite different than on any 2D or 3D images.

What always helps us is driving through new housing developments to get ideas of what appeals to you in real life. For example, window styles, colors, and so on. It’s easier to apply those ideas to your own house than just relying on pictures from the internet.

I doubt there is a specialist for this kind of work. At least, I don’t know anyone who would do it. There are various interior architects or interior designers for the interior, but for the exterior?

The professional is called an architect here. :-) But you don’t want that... And every professional costs money... Whether they are called an architect, bricklayer, electrician, or something else – they have been trained or even studied for that.

Any architect with even some creativity can do this. The question is whether you really want to save money at what I consider the wrong stage?

Experienced façade specialists who have been in the market for years can help, as well as good interior designers; they don’t just work “inside” anymore. Both will cost money as well 😉

In a design, the floor plan, interior, and exterior design usually go hand in hand with the requirements. Simply finding someone at the end to "make it look nice" will, in my opinion, not deliver the best result.
