Hello dear members,

I have a question regarding the exterior facade. Unfortunately, it was painted with lime paint in my case. Does anyone have experience with what would be best to paint over it?

Thanks for your answers.
Regards, Christian

Hello Tolentino,

Thank you for your response.
So, does that mean a mineral-based exterior paint would be suitable?

Well, not just any paint. Lime paint. Whether silicate paint will adhere properly without additional treatment, I would doubt; at least some kind of primer or bonding agent is needed. The lime paints I know tend to chalk a bit, so it’s possible that silicate paint would peel off again. However, I’m not a professional, just an experienced amateur. My experience with lime and silicate paints is limited to interior use. I don’t believe these paints differ significantly when used outdoors.

This might get deleted soon, but it looks like you’re actively reading right now.
Take a look at Schreiter and Kroll and get advice from them. They can probably help you further.
I’m not a representative of theirs; I just bought some insulation plaster from them once.
