Hello,
I am at the beginning of the planning phase and considering whether to build the exterior wall with hollow bricks or Poroton blocks. At this point, I would be interested to know what you have chosen and what your reasons were.
Thank you for your input.
Best regards,

It also depends on the groundwork contractor. For us, using Poroton would have cost several thousand euros more because the groundwork contractor used calcium silicate bricks in 95% of the construction and naturally wanted to charge a premium for such a special request.

This is one of those debates based on beliefs. There is no single perfect wall construction. Every option has its pros and cons. I would decide based on price and what the structural builder prefers to work with. Unless, of course, you have specific requirements for sound insulation because you are building near a highway...

Believe me, it has nothing to do with highways. Screaming children, agricultural machinery, and construction noise also exist in rural areas. And many more sources of noise. It is often quieter in the city...

We also use hollow Poroton blocks. We live in the countryside. Noise from outside mostly comes in through open windows and doors.

If I had to decide again, I would choose filled Poroton blocks for their mass and thermal insulation.

Personally, I would advise against external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS). I prefer to build "as simple as possible and as effective as necessary." It saves follow-up costs, installation and material expenses, and prevents solar radiation from affecting the masonry…

What I forgot to mention is that the unfilled Poroton bricks have significant longitudinal sound transmission. The ground floor and upper floor are very sensitive to noise. If you make a phone call on the ground floor, it can be heard on the upper floor. Because of this, these bricks are prohibited in multi-family houses, and in single-family homes with children, it can also be very annoying. You just need to know how sensitive you are...

I don’t think much of these bricks myself, but I built with them because almost everyone around here uses them. I wouldn’t do it again.

I don’t fully understand the headline: it would make sense if a porous brick with a 24cm (10 inch) wall thickness already met the energy savings regulation monolithically, but I find that somewhat hard to believe (?)
