Hello everyone,
Quick question. Is it normal for this much moisture to constantly pass through the wall? The roof, including the roofing felt, has been in place and fully finished for about 4 weeks. The windows have been installed for almost 2 weeks, but there are still no exterior windowsills. Could it be because the rainwater is getting into the brickwork and then into the insulation layer in between? We’re just a bit concerned about the amount of moisture. We’ve already asked a few people, and they said it’s normal. The site manager also says it’s normal, of course.

What do your garages look like at this time of year during the shell construction phase? I’m wondering how the plaster is supposed to hold up if it’s supposedly normal for that much moisture to come through. On the far left, you can see a small dry area for comparison.
Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.
Regards,
Andi

Hello Andi,
You mentioned a garage with windows? You’re raising quite a few questions. So, it’s a brick-built garage and water is getting inside? Maybe you could clarify the question a bit. It is, of course, normal for unplastered masonry to absorb water. However, it will release it again just as well. If the exterior plaster is missing, there are enough gaps where driving rain can penetrate. This is basically normal in such weather, does no damage, and will dry out again. The plaster will also hold. The setting process is a chemical reaction that works even on damp bricks. What confuses me are terms like clinker, so it’s brickwork with a facing? And insulation in between. Where exactly is the insulation located? Is it insulation or a vapor barrier? Just ask again in a different way and include pictures as well.
