Hello everyone,

We are currently planning the construction of our single-family house. The original plan was to use a single-layer exterior masonry wall on the ground floor and first floor made of insulated bricks with a thermal conductivity of 0.08 W/(m·K). However, based on a preliminary structural analysis, a partial double-layer system was planned for some areas of the ground floor, consisting of a concrete wall with external insulation (ETICS). After the final structural analysis was completed, it was determined that even more areas on the ground floor require higher strength. Our general contractor has now informed us that he has decided to build the entire ground floor again as a single-layer wall using insulated bricks with a thermal conductivity of 0.08 W/(m·K), but with higher compressive strength of at least 2.9 MN/m² (420 psi), for example a filled structural brick. The first floor will remain as originally planned without insulation filling. What do you think about this? Are there any advantages or disadvantages compared to the previously planned concrete with insulation version?
