Hello forum, I’m stuck with my guest bathroom. The tiler is coming on Saturday, and I still have the following problem:

In the guest bathroom, I have a water meter (cold water, calibrated until 2002) with a shut-off valve for both the guest bathroom and kitchen. The water meter comes out of the wall, and the shut-off valve is at the end of the pipe. So it’s not a water meter where the pipe enters on the left and exits on the right.
During the bathroom’s renovation, a boxed enclosure was built for the toilet and sink. To continue using the water meter, it now needs to be extended by about 10 cm (4 inches). My plumber has let me down, and I can’t find other companies on such short notice.
Shouldn’t this actually be no problem!?

Unfortunately, I can’t attach any photos here.

Thanks in advance for the help!

I have not encountered a meter like that before, so I’m unable to help you with it, but it shouldn’t really be a big problem.

All I can say at this point is the following.

First of all, the meter has already expired and should have been replaced a long time ago, assuming it is the meter used for billing (by the municipal utility) of water consumption. If it is such a meter, you are not allowed to tamper with it yourself; only a licensed installer may do so.

Hello

You probably mean an in-wall (concealed) valve water meter.
Extensions are manufacturer-specific, so as a layperson you probably won’t find anything suitable.
When replacing or extending, the entire line needs to be drained.
