ᐅ Expert Consultant: In Which Construction Phases Is Their Involvement Crucial?

Hello everyone,

we are about to start construction through a general contractor.

Now we are wondering about hiring an expert inspector. We initially planned to hire one for all construction phases. The seller agrees but advised us to save money by hiring the inspector only for the shell construction. According to them, it wouldn’t be worth it for the interior finishing.

What is your opinion on this, and do you have any experience?

Best regards

I think a building inspector is no longer necessary after the shell construction is completed.

Why? That’s actually when the real details start, before that it was just a quick job.

Building inspector until the end. Ours will come for the last time before the warranty period expires.

Especially during interior finishing, many things are concealed behind a neat facade.

Okay, so you have the heating programs checked and verify whether the screed was installed properly.

For the electrical work, what kind of things should be inspected? For example, whether airtight electrical boxes were used. We checked ourselves, and a friendly electrician also reviewed it, but what else is important?

And what does the building inspector look at for the plumbing?

Nonsense, especially in interior construction you need someone neutral because many trades overlap and tend to rely on DIN standards and assigning blame.

I also see a building inspector as a form of quality assurance. Craftsmen I know mention that work tends to be done more precisely, and generally you can tell when entering the construction site if a good building inspector is involved.

We had an independent, court-approved building inspector, and when they made a statement, it was always followed.

It was exactly the same for us! It was money well spent.
