Hello,
I am currently renovating my bathroom, including the bathtub. I use a bathtub quite often and am therefore considering buying one with a whirlpool feature. Unfortunately, the internet is full of offers for whirlpool bathtubs with quite significant price differences.

Can anyone share their experiences with specific manufacturers? Has anyone ever bought from a more affordable supplier, or is it better to go with well-known brands like Villeroy & Boch? Is it preferable to have a built-in tub that is then surrounded by masonry and tiled, or not?

I would appreciate any tips and suggestions. Fortunately, you don’t renovate a bathroom very often.

Although we don’t have one ourselves, we have used whirlpool bathtubs in several vacation homes—definitely more than five.

Even though I am a big fan of whirlpools, these have unfortunately disappointed me consistently, despite sometimes being from high-quality brands. Sometimes more, sometimes less. In a closed room, they are simply too noisy for my taste, which diminishes the desired wellness experience. Additionally, the intensity was usually adjustable on only two levels. The massage function is generally not comparable to that of a real whirlpool.

So, I wouldn’t get a whirlpool bathtub myself. I’d rather have a real whirlpool in the garden =)

We have one of these in our rental apartment from 1998 – it still works well, but it is incredibly noisy, so I definitely can’t relax with it running. And because the child in the next room is sleeping, it’s often not usable in the evening at all.
I can’t judge how much quieter the technology has become in the last 20 years, but I would never install something like that now. And it does get musty if it’s not flushed through regularly, yes.

I’m a fan of bathtubs myself and always wanted to have one. However, I decided against it after my plumber advised me not to.

Mainly because of the noise, the cleaning effort, and the tendency to build up limescale.

The overall effort involved is too much for me, including the costs.

It’s better to invest the money in a good tub with enough lying space and comfort. What’s left over can then be spent on bathroom design to ensure it also looks good.
