Hello everyone!
The first obstacle has come up: In our temporary accommodation, where we plan to live during the construction phase, there is no DSL connection available for us.
In the region, a provider (Inexio, formerly Quix) has expanded their network, and I was able to order broadband from them – but I just received an order confirmation stating that the technology at our installation address is not yet deployed, and they can’t give us a scheduled activation date. 🙄
That’s just great – selling connections without having the capacity. Talking to support revealed that the distribution point (cabinet) at our address is full, so they’d have to expand it first, but whether and when that will happen is unclear.
Via the national telecom provider, we get 2 Mbit down, which is not enough for working.
Now we have two options: a Gigacube from Vodafone or something similar (are there other providers like this?), or Starlink.
Edit: Luckily, LTE is available at the address.
Starlink, of course, has high initial costs. And their website provides very little information, despite asking for consent to charge about 700€ (euros) with just two clicks.
Does anyone here have experience with Starlink (or Gigacube) and can share their experience?
Good luck,
kati1337

I’m not up to date with the current rates.
The question is how much time will be left for gaming and Netflix during the construction phase 😉 We also need it for work, and currently use it for all kinds of TV streaming. We could try switching to satellite for a year, but just two people who spend every weekday morning in Teams meetings already use a lot of data.
That’s why the o2 hotspot offers unlimited traffic. However, I would run several speed tests on the property. And if it’s really important, maybe even consider two providers.
But now I’ll also admit that I was a wow player from the very beginning :-) Mannoroth, hunter with over 1200 days played. There were only a small handful of guilds that were better back then. By the way, almost 20 members were from Saarland, from the small town of Völklingen 😀 😀.

I'm surprised that Kati wants to find time for gaming while building a house and taking care of a small child. When our little one goes to bed between 10 and 11 p.m. (on good days), I usually still have things to take care of 😀 Off topic: I don't have children myself, but is it okay for kids to go to bed that late? ;-) You must keep them entertained for quite a while then. 🙂

Deliverer4 Apr 2022 18:49The question isn’t when they go to bed. The question is when they wake up again!
That’s what you eventually base the bedtime on.

They often ganked my poor Holy Priest while leveling back then, that was on Frostwolf, I think. I already played during Classic, but before I reached max level, BC came out.Regarding the hotspot: o2 only offers 4G unfortunately, with the D-network we’d at least have a chance to connect to 5G. Although we did hit the jackpot in dumb luck. Orange has 5G coverage, but we’re sitting in the white square. 😀

We’re really lucky with ours, he takes after dad and needs his sleep. Even as a baby, he was an unusually good sleeper and very independent. But I know from friends that it can be very different.Deliverer schrieb:

;-)Exactly. 😀kati1337 schrieb:
I checked the coverage map again; our address is in the LTE/4G area but right on the border of 5G. We are house number 12, and house number 6 has 5G. So, I probably can't expect 5G coverage here, but 4G is still a lot better compared to 2 Mbps DSL. Well, if that’s not enough for someone to figure out the exact distance to the nearest bakery again ;-)
