Dear forum members,

The plastering work is currently underway in our new build. The house has expanded clay walls.

According to the contract, the painter is supposed to apply filler twice. The work is done using spray filler.

The painter has now informed us that he will only apply filler once (spray filler) but will use double the amount.

So my question is: is this method professionally correct?

After the filling, the surfaces will be sanded, painting fleece will be applied, and the walls will be painted twice (hopefully really twice and not using double the amount as well ;-)).

I look forward to your answers.

Well, the purpose of applying two layers of filler is first to repair the larger imperfections and then to sand the surface. For the second layer, only minor defects remain, and after the second sanding, the surface should be perfect. The filler needs to be applied only as much as necessary to fix the defects. Applying more doesn’t help. So, saying "two layers of filler" would more accurately be called "two rounds of sanding."
