For solid wood, I prefer using hard wax oil – it is also food safe, and the countertops treated with it are almost indestructible, even at the edges.

Who here has experience with solid wood countertops treated with oil?Solid oak, 40mm (1.6 inches) thick. Oiled annually with Rustins Danish Oil. On a property. Very low maintenance. BUT: once a piece of fruit rotted on it and left a stain, as it soaked deep into the wood. Otherwise, marks usually disappear with the next oil application. After almost 4 years, I can recommend solid wood.
And Iroko is significantly more resistant than oak. It is more commonly used as decking wood.
But keep in mind, the color changes over time.

You have to like that it doesn’t always look perfectly polished and naturally requires regular maintenance, including occasional sanding. If you’re fine with that, you’ll enjoy it for a long time. I would compare it to hardwood flooring. It’s quite similar.

Who of you can share experience with solid wood countertops oiled for kitchen use?
I have chosen Iroko but have not ordered yet because I have some concerns about moisture.
Greetings from Upper Austria I have nothing good to report about solid beech wood (carpentry quality, not DIY store) with poor care 🙄. Can you say something about prices for Iroko? I’m still undecided about my new countertop…
