Hello everyone,
I am currently building a shelving system using Kallax-style shelves and want to prevent the shelves from shifting or getting damaged during transport or moving. I am considering using silicone bumpers under the shelves to improve grip and avoid scratches.
Does anyone have experience with silicone bumpers on Kallax-style shelves? I am especially interested in:
- How effective is the grip in practice?
- Do the bumpers harden over time and cause pressure marks on the wood?
- Do the bumpers leave visible marks on the shelves?
- Are there specific types or brands that work particularly well?
I look forward to your opinions, tips, and possibly alternative solutions. Thank you in advance!

How heavily are your shelves loaded? Are you planning to place heavy items or move them around a lot?Thank you for your detailed answer! My shelves are relatively heavily loaded, especially with books and small devices, maybe around 15–20 kg per shelf. Occasionally, the unit is moved, mainly when rearranging the furniture in the apartment. Therefore, I’m concerned whether cheaper shelf supports might get damaged quickly or come loose.

How secure is the hold under dynamic load, for example when the shelf is being moved?I’m very interested in that as well. It shouldn’t slip just by lifting. Does anyone have experience with how different shelf supports perform under these conditions?
I’ve also considered whether fixing the supports with an appropriate adhesive might help, but would that possibly damage the surface?

Does anyone have experience with how different stoppers perform under this kind of load?I always glue mine firmly in place—no slipping, no marks. Do not press the adhesive through, and there will be no damage. You can use silicone adhesive or contact cement.
