Hello everyone
After purchasing a plot of land in Neuhofen, Rhineland-Palatinate, we would like to build an extension onto an existing semi-detached house.
We are now looking for a general contractor.
I would be very grateful for any experiences and advice you can share.

Hello Sedax182
How far along are you with the construction? I read that you are building with Wonnegau Massivhaus; could you possibly share some insights? We are currently looking for a builder for our project and are considering building with Massivhaus Wonnegau. Thank you very much in advance!!!

We are currently looking for a home builder for our project and are considering building with Massivhaus Wonnegau. Thanks in advance!!! Next week we will receive our floor slab!
Construction started on April 14, 2020.
We experienced a significant delay.
However, Massivhaus Wonnegau was not responsible for that!
We had issues with the building authority.
We waited over four months for our building permit/planning permission.
We are very satisfied with MW.
Of course, there were a few minor problems, but they were resolved quickly.
May I ask where you are planning to build?
You might even be able to visit the construction site.
Best regards

In the end, we chose Massivhaus Wonnegau. I just took a look at their website and I'm quite impressed. Not because the houses are especially attractive—few of them suit my taste, as their clients clearly have different preferences—but this provider stands out for something I rarely see: their references page shows dozens of completed houses with postal codes and street names, allowing potential customers to form their own opinions; and with a clear focus on the local region (which I believe is a sign of a reliable partner, as opposed to a "build and run" company), mostly around WO/MZ/HP. It seems that many of their clients have heating systems with outdoor units, which I personally don't like at all.https://www.instagram.com/11antgmxde/

Tastes differ. Luckily.
But before we signed, we inspected several houses.
You just have to be clear about what you want.
Preferably, from the very beginning.
The forum and contact with previous homeowners helped me a lot.
Still, there are a few things I would plan differently.

Tastes vary. Fortunately.
But before we signed, we visited several houses to have a closer look. Above all, tastes can be clearly seen in built customer projects – that way you can tell if a provider’s typical customers have similar preferences to your own. This reveals a lot about whether the “chemistry” will be right. That’s why I really appreciate that this provider presents their references in such a clear way that interested parties can plan their own route to visit the projects and form their own impression. From my perspective, there are more “right-for-me” and “not-right-for-me” providers than simply “good” or “bad” ones – but the “absolutely” bad ones usually have something in common: their references are not transparent (and presented in glossy brochures, unlike this provider’s, where you can even see a driveway not yet paved in the photo). Therefore, this provider seems recommendable or at least worth considering, even if personally they might not be a perfect fit for me (in my case, simply because they are not in my region). My rule is always “your own eyes see more than anyone else’s,” so I would not trust someone I only met online, nor expect others to, but rather check for yourself. And for that, references need to provide locations with street names – not just pretty pictures – so you know who’s who and what’s what.

For this reason, I really appreciate that this provider showcases their references in such an exemplary way, allowing potential clients to plan their own route to visit the projects and get a personal impression. In my view, there are more providers who either fit me well or don’t fit me at all than simply “good” or “bad” ones – but the “absolutely” bad ones have at least one reliable common feature: their references are not transparent (and presented in glossy brochures, unlike this provider’s photos showing even an unpaved driveway). Therefore, this provider seems recommendable or at least worth considering, even if personally they might not be a match for me (for me, they would be excluded for another reason anyway: simply because they are not in my region). My motto is always "your own eyes see ‘more’ than others,” so I would neither believe you nor myself nor anyone else met only online without seeing for myself. And for that, references don’t help if they are just sentimental notes, but if they come with location and street – in other words, “the horse and the rider.” Nothing to add!
