Hello dear readers,

we are planning to purchase a Weberhaus passive house built in 2004. The house is equipped with a heat pump, model Proxon 630 VP/VPC (also called Genvex GE 630 VP-VPC), sold by Proxon (Zimmermann ventilation), and a hot water system from the brand Genvex, model Vanvex 295 with a solar module.

We have some questions about the practical use and electricity consumption of these two systems. Perhaps someone is using these systems and can share their experiences with us.

We understand how the heat pump works. We were told that fresh air is drawn in from outside during both summer and winter. In winter, the air is warmed by waste heat and a ground heat exchanger.

Then there is the hot water system, where the extracted water is heated by a compressor and a fan. During peak times, an electric heating element can also be activated. The current owners explained to us that they significantly reduced their electricity costs by running the system at night in a so-called “party mode.” That means the fan runs and keeps the water warm. The family benefits from a cheaper night electricity tariff.

Our questions:
Is it plausible to run the system overnight?
Is this not redundant since the ventilation system of the heating also runs 24 hours a day?
Is it not noisy? We were in the basement where the system is installed while water was being heated and heard a loud humming noise. The neighbor said he can hear the system at night in his house but it does not bother him. However, we do not want any trouble if someone else moves in there.

I hope these are not too many questions. I look forward to your answers.
