Hello everyone,
I am currently focusing on the safety of my apartment, especially regarding my young son, who will soon start touching everything. Therefore, I am considering using child-safe magnetic locking systems for my Kallax shelves. My questions are: What are your experiences with these systems in daily use? Are they truly reliable and childproof, even if little ones pull or push a bit harder? How about the durability of the magnets and the installation process? Are there specific brands or systems that have proven to be particularly reliable? I look forward to detailed feedback and tips to help me make the best decision.

the installation was easy and the kids simply can’t reach it anymore

I wouldn’t be so sure that magnetic locking systems are really the best option. Kids are incredibly inventive, and if there are any weak points—whether it’s a strong magnet that can be “bypassed” by fiddling or an installation that wasn’t perfectly precise—then it quickly turns into a playground. I recommend mechanical locks or at least a combination of both. Safety first.

I can say from personal experience: yes, it’s worth it! 😊 I’ve had the magnetic locks installed for over a year, and they work great. My children have tried to open them hundreds of times – without success. However, you really need to install them carefully, and with older kids it can sometimes be a bit fiddly. But overall, a very good solution for Kallax and similar furniture!
