Has anyone here happened to install front doors from any of the following manufacturers?
- Hörmann
- Rodenberger
- Kompotherm
- Hörmann
- Weru
Unfortunately, Hörmann is the only company where an online configurator (if one even exists) provides a final price. For an aluminum front door with a side window that meets our preferences, we would be looking at around 5-6,000 EUR for example, with
- at least RC3 security rating
- the best possible thermal transmittance value (Ud-value) within that price range
These two features are unfortunately only listed online by very few of the companies mentioned above. Why does only Hörmann present this information so openly and transparently?
Are the other companies in the same price range? Or are there more affordable aluminum front doors with RC3 and relatively good insulation?
We decided on an aluminum front door because it provides a premium impression, should not warp after several years (which could happen with plastic), and generally has a very long service life.
Thank you very much for your experiences and answers.

Online configuration of aluminum (and other) exterior doors is only partially possible in all variations because there are very few door manufacturers: the door panels are such a specialized area that they have independent producers. Sometimes the profile manufacturer and sometimes the panel manufacturer acts as the assembler, selling the complete product but actually purchasing the other components. Not all manufacturers maintain consistent partnerships with the other suppliers – which is why many online configurators are incomplete or only constantly updated for the best-selling options. For customers interested in variants outside the mainstream, this practically means that a phone inquiry often reveals combinations that the online catalog either does not include or does not have current pricing for. With a quality exterior door, the cost is often around five thousand or more, so personal contact should be worth the customer’s while. “Customer 21” or not – not all product areas are fully available online yet.

Does RB3 even make sense for you? The front door is rarely the entry point; it’s usually terrace doors and windows. Do you have at least RB3 there as well?
Is your property really at such risk, or do you simply have a higher need for security?
Burglary protection is not limited to doors and windows, and certainly not to just one.
Perhaps a bolted safe makes more sense for irreplaceable items. Everything else can be covered by insurance in case of damage.
Regarding the front door, of course, it depends on the size and design. Other manufacturers probably have similar standards to Hörmann.

We have a Kompotherm front door sized 2200x1100 millimeters (87x43 inches) without any additional elements.
The base model cost approximately €2,900 net. Additional costs included:
- €380 net for custom color
- €320 net for triple glazing
- €1,600 net for the Fuhr motorized lock and Ekey fingerprint scanner
- €200 net for custom handles
- €400 net for installation
The total was €5,800 net, or €6,900 gross.
We did not choose overlapping wings or an RC security rating. I would reconsider the latter anyway, as an aluminum front door with multiple locking points is generally one of the least likely targets for burglars, especially if the windows don’t also have RC3 protection.
PS: The U-value was, I believe, around 1.3.
