ᐅ Experience with Duotherm blocks, used by Kern-Haus

I’m reviving this thread again.

I’m new to the forum and expect to receive my quote from Kern-Haus tomorrow. So far, the impression of their houses has been very positive. We were able to visit a house in the shell stage and another nearly completed one.

Can anyone share real-life experiences? How is living in these houses, and how did the construction process go?

Best regards,
Frank

Please also include when you wrote each message and what responses you have received so far. This way, others can better assess the builder’s behavior. It’s possible you only sent the email 24 hours ago and have not yet received a reply.

Gladly:
After reporting the defect multiple times to the management of Kern-Haus Massivhaus Rhein-Ruhr GmbH, I contacted the quality management at the address mentioned here on September 11, 2017.
I have not received any response from either party to this day.
Now, everything is likely following the necessary legal process, and until then, water will probably continue to penetrate our house. Kern-Haus does not seem to care about this!

This is truly a worst-case scenario when building a house, and the construction partner delivers such performance. I just hope that more homeowners read forums like this before hiring anyone.

Unfortunately, the quality management department at Kern-Haus AG is not addressing our defect!

Yes, we built with Kern-Haus. We haven’t been living here long, but there is a problem with Duo Therm – attaching pictures, shelves, etc. is a real challenge. However, the main issue is Kern-Haus itself – stay away from this construction company! Their website and brochures are just for show; everything else is an absolute disaster.

Tell us more about it. I see you have only made one post so far. What is your "saga"? A core house is currently being built again right across from us.

Here is mine: At first, we were actually very convinced. Marketing, catalogs, and information about features all worked very well. Everything was fine up until signing the contract, but after that, we were basically "trapped" and communication declined. Inquiries about special requests, construction start, trades, etc. were ignored until there was no information at all. The limited liability company (LLC) was practically unreachable. We were repeatedly given excuses about the construction start. Ultimately, the work was supposed to begin only one year after signing the contract. After escalating the issue to the management board of the corporation (AG), construction did start sooner, but the problems did not go away. The construction manager existed only on paper. There was neither proper coordination of the trades nor presence on site, and worst of all—the work performed by the trades was not accepted, which led to significant defects. Several times, we received incorrect windows, wrong fixtures, mold issues, etc. The worst part, however, was hardly any progress after the shell construction. Constant delays between trades, construction delays without reason, problems being pushed aside, and the absolute worst—the withholding of money for defects was enforced through what felt like “Russian debt collection” tactics. My list of defects was still very long even after handover, deadlines were not met, communication remained minimal, and above all—there was no plan. Issues that were addressed usually ended up even worse afterward. …and so on… my story is endless. The worst part is that similar experiences are common in the immediate surroundings. The tradespeople share how things are going with other houses from the same builder, and their experiences barely differ from ours—so we are definitely not an isolated case. I can only strongly advise against it…
