Hello everyone,

Who of you has experience buying shrubs, plants, or young trees in the Netherlands?
Supposedly, the prices are significantly cheaper there compared to Germany.

I would appreciate your opinions.

Best regards,
Micha

Good experience with shrubs, small trees, and perennials. I am also within a 15-minute drive of Venlo and the surrounding area, where there are many shops to choose from.

Always the question of what and when. A small fruit tree at Aldi costs 7.99.

Can you roughly estimate the savings effect? Maybe you could share more details from your experience, what exactly you compared, etc.
I have approximately 35sqm (375 sq ft) of green space in my driveway to be planted with vegetation, including at least one tree and many shrubs (like pampas grass, for example). I think that adds up to quite a bit. In the garden, I also need a significant amount for a larger bed on one side of the green area.
My neighbor ordered his plants through his boss in the Netherlands, the materials are arriving next week, and he was very impressed by the savings effect.

Savings range from 0 to 75%. It always depends on what and when you buy. At the end of the season, you can get the remaining stock for very low prices. High-end stores like Leurs in Venlo hardly offer any discounts. You need to find a proper garden center that sells mostly outdoors under covered areas—more like Aldi, simple and straightforward.

Our neighbors bought a Thuja hedge (estimated 60 plants around 120-150cm (47-59 inches) each). Including delivery, they saved about 25%. An amber tree about 4m (13 feet) tall was 199€ plus delivery. I can’t tell you much more. We had about 500sqm (5,382 sq ft) of land that needed plants and garden beds.

For 35sqm (377 sq ft) of green space, I wouldn’t stress too much—unless you live right near the border. Then just go and check it out. Delivery doesn’t make much sense anyway, so just fill up your trunk.

30-40% is achievable. Many things can also be done online and at least delivered from nearby locations.

ok
That’s already a useful reference.
I need many hardy perennials for winter... like ornamental grasses, for example. And a tree, although I first need to look around to see what I like. It shouldn’t be a deciduous tree. The prices for bonsai and similar plants can be quite shocking.
Today, I took a look at Baldur; it’s not as bad as I had expected.
