Hello everyone,
I am about to paint my new KALLAX shelf from IKEA myself. I’m wondering: does the smell of the paint or primer usually linger for a long time with the KALLAX? I plan to have the shelf in the living room, so a strong or persistent odor would be quite bothersome. Has anyone experienced how long the smells from painting this kind of furniture typically last? Perhaps there are differences depending on the type of paint or room ventilation?
Thanks in advance for your insights and tips!

One more note on the topic of odor issues: There are also reports that the smell is perceived differently depending on the indoor climate. Cooler, less ventilated apartments tend to retain the odor longer.
Additionally, the intensity of the smell can change due to the reaction between the varnish and the chipboard surface.
My tip: If possible, store furniture for a while in a well-ventilated area outside the main living space, such as a garage or sunroom, to air it out.

I can definitely arrange that here. I will paint the shelving unit first and then ventilate it well before putting it in the living room.
I appreciate that your advice has helped me minimize the smell as much as possible. Thanks to everyone for the helpful tips and insights! 🙂
