ᐅ How to install screed at different heights?

Hello everyone.
Since we don’t want a thick transition strip between the hallway (tiles) and the bedrooms (vinyl), we are considering having the screed poured to match the installation thickness of the floor coverings.

The total thickness for the vinyl, including leveling compound, is about 5mm (0.2 inches).
We’re not sure yet about the tiles.

What do you think? Does this make sense? Can the screed be poured that precisely in a relaxed way? Or will it end up causing more problems than using transition strips?

I wouldn’t do that. If you ever want to replace that lousy vinyl with something decent, you’ll run into big problems because, for example, parquet flooring won’t be possible.

That’s why it’s better to choose thick vinyl and install proper underlay for impact sound insulation. This way, the screed can stay even.

It worked great for us, and the floor doesn’t suffer from it either.

I’m joining in here:

Today, I passed on to the architect the different finished floor heights to be considered for the screed installation.
He then sent the following notes to the screed company:

Hallway + WC + stairs: 9 mm tile, large format (thick adhesive layer!) + 6 mm adhesive = 15 mm TOTAL
hardwood / engineered wood plank + utility room (upper floor): 10 mm porcelain stoneware + 4 mm adhesive = 14 mm TOTAL
bathroom upper floor + bathroom attic: 9 mm porcelain stoneware + 4 mm adhesive = 13 mm TOTAL
rest of the house: 12 mm engineered hardwood plank + 3 mm adhesive = 15 mm TOTAL
I assume that the differences are so minimal that the SAME HEIGHT can be achieved everywhere[/I]

Is he correct with
a) his assessment of the adhesive layer thicknesses and
b) that the millimeter differences do not matter?

In my opinion, that can’t really be achieved with exact precision. It will probably come down to the screed installer planning a 15mm (0.6 inch) covering height, and the tiler later using leveling compound and adhesive to achieve consistent heights.

And yes, I don’t think it’s that critical, because just like the screed installer, the tiler is not a machine. How could they manually create an adhesive layer that is exactly the same thickness down to the millimeter across dozens of square meters?

Yes, he is right, the height is the same everywhere.
