Hello everyone,

I am currently planning the installation of an IKEA METOD kitchen unit in a room with a sloped ceiling. The challenge is to adjust the carcasses and cabinets to make the best use of the slope without wasting space, while ensuring everything is mounted securely and accurately.

My questions are:
- What modifications or cuts are useful or necessary for METOD cabinets when working with sloped ceilings?
- Are there proven methods for precisely aligning and fastening cabinets to uneven walls, especially under sloped ceilings?
- How can maximum storage space be achieved despite these limitations, for example with custom solutions or accessories?

It is especially important to me that no corners remain unused and that the installation remains stable even when placing heavier items in the upper cabinets.

I am really looking forward to your experiences and tips, thank you in advance!

I recently built a loft kitchen using METOD myself and can only recommend being bold with the cutting! Especially for the upper cabinets, where the space is limited, I strongly suggest assembling the cabinets fully, placing them as a test, and only then cutting the back side along the slope with a jigsaw.

I did the same and definitely recommend adjusting the cabinets only after assembly. It usually works better than working with separate parts.

Good to hear that the soft-close hinges didn’t give you any trouble. That was a concern for me at first.

What I might add is to be very precise when cutting the side panels. It’s worth using a guide rail or template before sawing to keep the edges clean.

Sloped ceilings are really challenging, but with care, it’s definitely doable.

This structured approach minimizes errors and maximizes the use of space.

I fully agree with that. Here is a technical tip:

- When adjusting the angle, be sure to use a wet saw or fine-toothed blade to prevent tear-out in the particle board material.
- During wall installation, it is especially important whether the wall is solid or only covered with drywall—choosing the appropriate anchors (e.g., metal expansion anchors, hollow wall anchors) is essential.
- Sometimes it can be helpful to install a substructure made of wooden battens to create a flat surface for the METOD carcasses on sloped walls.

Is there any information about the substrate of the installation surface? It has a strong impact on planning the fastening system.
