ᐅ Excessive Costs for the Kitchen?!

We are currently looking for a kitchen for our new build, which is scheduled to start in 2021. Nothing extravagant. Our first two visits to kitchen showrooms resulted in prices of at least 15,000 euros (around $16,000 USD), plus the side-by-side refrigerator that we plan to buy ourselves.

We are a bit surprised that for just a few pieces of furniture and three appliances (dishwasher, cooktop with fan, oven) we have to pay at least 15,000 euros. The consultants actually expected around 20,000 euros. The countertop is not even ceramic but rather granite.

Are there other options to purchase an affordable kitchen?

Please don’t get me wrong. We could afford such a kitchen. We just don’t see why we should spend 20,000 euros on a few furniture pieces and appliances.

Who wants another round of popcorn? It's really exciting here right now.

How do you plan to avoid child labor? I assume that somewhere along the supply chain, child labor is involved—no matter where I buy from.
Being expensive doesn’t help—look at clothing.
Made in Central Europe—this would mean everything from raw materials to the finished product has to be produced here—almost impossible.

I don’t have a solution for this, but we shouldn’t just give up quickly and accept it as unchangeable. Our own children are surrounded by bathrooms, playrooms, and so on—there should be, in my opinion, more room for such thoughts and efforts to improve the situation. Every small attempt counts... every single day less of a child being harmed there matters just as much.

Yes, you’re right. A solution would really be practical.

I agree with you, and I think some people feel secure just because something is "expensive." Nowadays, you really have to be proactive and willing to look deeper, and since things are deliberately obscured, it takes considerable effort—even though I only wanted to buy a few socks.
Test series from organizations like Stiftung Warentest show that being expensive alone is not the key to truth; paradoxically, it is often the opposite.
How simple it used to be... everything was better in the past anyway!

Better hold back in the evening or at night, at least it's free here.
