Hello everyone, I am planning to install an IKEA METOD kitchen unit with cabinet doors for our children, but I have some concerns about the durability and child-friendliness of the doors. My main focus is on how to make the doors more stable and resistant to minor impacts, scratches, or the constant opening and closing by kids—without losing the character and design of METOD or introducing overly expensive modifications. Do you have any experience with child-friendly coatings, impact protection, or special handles that are sturdy yet minimize the risk of injury? I am also interested in practical tips for long-term maintenance to keep the doors looking nice over time. I look forward to your hands-on recommendations!
Great topic! 😄 I installed METOD doors in our home with so-called "soft-touch" handle strips – they are flat, sturdy, and very child-friendly. Additionally, I added a matte protective film that effectively hides minor scratches. This way, the kids are happy to use the kitchen without causing immediate wear and tear.

It is best to choose handles with rounded edges to avoid injuries.I fully agree with this. With small children, this is really an important point, as sharp-edged handles often lead to more injuries. We switched to plastic handles with rounded edges, which provides much greater safety.
Additionally, it helps to regularly talk with the children about careful handling. A good combination of protection and education often makes the difference.

Great topic! 😄 At my place, I equipped the METOD doors with so-called "soft-touch" handle profiles – they are flat, sturdy, and very kid-friendly.May I ask how durable these handle profiles really are? Do they hold up well against wet wipes and minor scratches? In everyday use with toddlers, everything tends to get scratched very quickly...
