Hello everyone,
we are currently considering how to design our entrance area and are discussing the size and design of a recessed doormat.
How have you solved this? Does anyone even have one, or do you simply place a mat with a water absorber in front of the door?
Pictures would be appreciated as well
Thanks in advance!

Placing a regular doormat inside the entrance area looks pretty awkward, doesn’t it?
At relatives’ homes, there’s usually a mat with a scraper next to the door on the left, so every guest has to wipe their feet first. It doesn’t look very nice. And a recessed mat won’t really solve the problem when it’s really muddy. Then guests simply have to take their shoes off because you just can’t clean them properly that way.
Outside, we’re also considering installing something recessed, but inside it was never an issue—it’s not a medical practice or shopping center with constant foot traffic.

Doc.Schnaggls31 Aug 2016 11:39Hello,
yes, we actually have a regular doormat outside the door all year round.
Inside the door, we have a larger mat (about 150cm x 100cm (59 inches x 39 inches)) where everyone, including guests, takes off their outdoor shoes—this keeps dirt from outside nicely contained.
Anyone who wants can put on a pair of the guest slippers, but these are rarely used since the floor is pleasantly cool in summer and comfortably warm in winter.
This works very well—so far, no one has complained...
Regards,
Dirk

Knallkörper31 Aug 2016 14:29In our "old" house, we have a recessed doormat both inside and outside. I would not choose to have the outdoor one again because it tends to collect too many insects and the weather wears down the mat more. However, I find the indoor one particularly practical.
