Hello,

we have now been living in our newly built house for six months, and the electricity and gas consumption is starting to stabilize, making it easier to estimate future usage.

After moving in, we initially ended up with the expensive default energy supplier tariff from eon-Avacon. Now, for the first time, I am seriously considering switching. My preliminary research shows that there is significant potential to save money.

Is it really as simple as the internet (well-known comparison websites, etc.) makes it seem?

I’m sure some of you switch providers regularly (annually?). What do you pay attention to when doing so? Does the transition go smoothly? And what are your thoughts on green energy tariffs?

Contract started on July 17th
So why not also return on July 17th?

The same basic principles probably apply to gas as well, right?

Should I have the new provider cancel the old contract as of 07/01 or 08/01?
?
Of course, for 07/16 or 07/17, so the new contract starts immediately after. Tell the new provider to cancel your current contract as early as possible—that way, everything will fit perfectly.

Why not go back to July 17th then?
I can only select the first day of the month.

Short and simple: yes and yes. We have been with Vattenfall for a few years now, and they also offer bonuses if you stay or renew the contract. Green electricity is an option if you are interested in that.

Vattenfall looks very good. Contract duration 12 months, price guarantee for 12 months, cancellation period 6 weeks.
Question regarding the bonus conditions according to C...24.

In addition to the immediate bonus (€45), there is also a new customer bonus (€152) for me.
"This new customer bonus will be void if the contract is terminated by you before 12 months of supply are completed. The bonus will not be void if the contract ends after 12 months."

So how exactly does this work? Don’t these two sentences contradict each other?

a) I cancel the contract on time, 6 weeks before the end of the contract, because I want to switch providers again -> do I lose the bonus because I was not supplied for the full 12 months?

b) I keep the contract running for one year -> I keep my new customer bonus and even get additional bonuses for staying?

Without any bonuses included, I would only save around 2 cents per kWh. With our estimated consumption of 3,000 kWh/year, that would mean about €5 savings per month.

Edit: Relevant here is a 1-star review on the comparison site:
"The new customer bonus is only paid out if you stay with the provider for longer than 1 year. This was not clear before signing the contract."

There are often local providers who do not participate in Verivox, Check24, and similar platforms. They are often just as affordable, sometimes even cheaper, but you don’t have to switch every year.
