Good morning everyone,
I wanted to ask what your house’s electricity consumption is at night when everything is quiet and sleeping, so what is running continuously?
We have a newly built house, moved in summer 2019. Our building services include underfloor heating (air-to-water heat pump), controlled mechanical ventilation (runs at full power 3 times a day for 2 hours each, then reduced), a photovoltaic system, and otherwise the usual nighttime appliances (phone charger plugged into USB outlet, e-bikes charging occasionally, 2 TVs on standby, Alexas on standby, etc.).
At night, we have a continuous consumption of about 232W (with ventilation running at reduced power and when the heat pump is not producing). I can see this in the app for the photovoltaic system. From 0:00 to 6:30 a.m. we consume about 2.8 kWh.
How about you?
Best regards

Yes, it’s quite intense, but if you can afford it, then that’s just how it is. I also have a lot of technology running 24/7, but nowhere near that level of consumption. But if you’re okay with it personally... why not?I agree. Sounds a bit like a nerd and a bit of an enthusiast (as they say in the hardware sector). Yes, why not?Tarnari schrieb:

I don’t understand why no photovoltaic system? You get more technology, but it actually “saves” energy. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not fundamentally against it. Until just now, I thought the degradation of solar panels worked against their payback. However, if there is a 10-year warranty on consistent output, that would be acceptable for me. But I wouldn’t want to put this thing on the roof only to have to replace it after 6 years and start all over again. In that case, I might as well have left it alone if the costs remain the same. The costs aren’t gone, they’re just paid differently.

I have another theory.
Marijuana plantation in the basement. Electricity consumption comes from the heat lamps Caught me :P
But seriously, shortly before the Bitcoin boom, I started crypto mining myself and declared a power consumption of 20MW to the utility provider. After a few months, the police actually came by to check if anything smelled suspicious here.

Guilty as charged.

That explains quite a bit. That would make me completely understand your setup.
What I would blame you for, though, is being partially responsible for the spike in GPU prices for a time.
Jokes aside, if that’s the case, it’s very interesting, and under those conditions, the high energy consumption could potentially be justified by good returns.

That explains a lot. I can totally understand your setup then.
What I would hold against you, though, is that you were partly responsible for the GPU price increases at times.
Jokes aside. If that's the case, very interesting, and then the consumption might be offset by decent returns. I sold most of mine shortly before the crash and still hold a few game coins. In December 2018, I closed my business because the cash cow had been milked enough.
I sold all my mining hardware and scaled back my operation.
It’s possible to make a good living from it.
Regarding the accusations about GPU prices, I prefer not to comment.
