ᐅ Electrical Planning – Outlet Behind or Beside a Sideboard/Cabinet

Dear forum members,

We are currently working on the electrical planning.

We are thinking over the following issue:

Next to the door, there will be a sideboard, on which a floor lamp will be placed. The sideboard is about 40–50 cm (16–20 inches) away from the door. Normally, sockets are installed low next to the door, but in this case, the cable would be exposed for about 20–30 cm (8–12 inches) leading toward the cabinet. Would it be best to place the socket directly behind the sideboard and use an extra-flat angled plug?

How have you handled similar situations?

Exactly like that. You can never have too many power outlets.

Yes, flat connectors are great. You might just need to solder them... Another tip: have the outlet wired to be switch-controlled from the door; that makes it even more convenient.

Not "either - or" but "both - and".

Besides the door, it’s fine. After all, I’m not designing my house around a piece of furniture that won’t last.

Not the house, but perhaps an extra electrical outlet. A small investment with a big impact (the outlet will likely be needed for several or maybe many years).
