I have three questions combined in one post. Our builder has provided us with a proposal for the electrical planning. We are uncertain about the following:
Roller shutter switches:
- Should we choose switches with timers? Pros and cons?
Dimmers:
- Should we choose dimmer switches? So far, we have them in the living room. We are unsure if it makes sense to install them in every living area or only in the living room?
Satellite / cable:
- A telephone line will be installed, and we also have a satellite system (2 apartments in the entire building). Is it advisable to have a cable connection installed as well? The planning process is just starting. Are there any advantages? DSL is provided via the telephone line.
Thank you

Dimmer: significantly more expensive, is it really used that often? Can also be retrofitted. Not suitable for most LEDs.
SAT/cable: cable connection is an alternative to telephone/DSL. Very cost-effective (at least with Unitymedia) if installed together with all other utility lines and a contract is signed (e.g., telephone + DSL). We are installing both connections to allow switching if needed. In my opinion, too expensive for TV.

Thank you very much. Regarding the cable, I am mainly concerned about DSL, focusing on speed and as an alternative to the telephone line.

Plan dimmers only in living areas and/or above the dining table to adjust the existing light as needed and adapt to the situation.
We also have dimmers in the bathroom 🙂
Elsewhere (children’s rooms, hallway, etc.) I don’t see the need in relation to the light fixture, situation, and costs.
