ᐅ Electrical installation without a sub-distribution panel

Hello!

I am considering routing every switch and electrical appliance individually to the utility room and installing a central sub-distribution panel there. I expect this to reduce installation effort and make future modifications easier...

Am I alone with such ideas?

Hello and thank you for your contributions!

Mycraft: Are there any good alternatives to Alexa? And is it compatible with as many devices?

hanse: From what I’ve learned so far in house planning, you shouldn’t build a house too uniquely if you want to maintain its value or keep resale in mind. What I like doesn’t have to appeal to every potential buyer. The value of a property is proportional to the range of interested buyers.

For this reason alone, but not only because of this, I don’t want to give up conventional switches and switching options.

Then at least install bus wiring in all the important locations. Since you’re doing the work yourself anyway, the bus wiring won’t make much difference in terms of cost. But this way, you can upgrade to KNX later if you want. With that, you definitely have the full range of components available for retrofitting.

I am not familiar with KNX yet! I need to read up on it first...

Hmm, yes, practically any other building control system. And that without needing to communicate with a computer.

Is Alexa compatible with many devices?

Then first read about what is possible nowadays. Alexa is rather just one option or a small part of the whole range.

Well, I’ll start reading a bit now… Thank you very much for the suggestions!

From what I have read so far about KNX, it seems to be exactly right for my needs!

I like voice commands. I should also be able to control the house via an app, and some automation would be nice too (like shutters going down at dusk or something similar).

Since I want to integrate this system with an alarm system including camera surveillance, which should automatically arm itself when I leave the house, I’m beginning to realize how complex this topic really is!

Yes, first familiarize yourself with what KNX can offer you. Actually, your project is ideally suited for it, and you don’t have to do without Alexa integration if you want.
