Hello everyone,
we are considering having a decorative fence with an electric double-leaf gate installed along the street. We just had our first consultation about this, which left me a bit uncertain. Of course, the manufacturer recommended by the provider is always the best, and all others are terrible – that goes without saying. Also, the Polish suppliers are strong competitors in our area, which adds another complication.
The fence builder works with TAM gate systems. Apparently, they are reliable over many years. Unfortunately, they don’t look very appealing to us. So the technology is good, but the selection of fence elements is rather limited. Another fence manufacturer offers more attractive fences but uses "Sommer" systems. The fence builder jokingly said that those only work in summer and are a worse choice compared to TAM.
There are also Polish suppliers who frequently install systems that aren’t approved in Germany at all. So if something happens – for example, a neighbor’s child getting their hand caught in the gate – no insurance will cover it. Furthermore, no one will repair the mess if it breaks. For us, that’s basically not an option.
Does anyone have experience with gate systems and their durability? Does anyone know TAM, and is it really better than others? Is Sommer really worse? Which gate system do you have?

Allthewayup14 Jun 2025 16:44We are currently having a custom-made fence system with an electric gate and a double folding gate manufactured and installed by Elmar Zaun. The price for this comes to 20,000 for 8 meters (26 feet) of fencing, a 1.2-meter (4 feet) gate, and a 3.9-meter (13 feet) double folding gate. Everything is made from aluminum. Production is almost entirely done abroad anyway. I believe a comparable fence system made in Germany would cost one and a half to twice as much.
The names and brands you mentioned don’t mean anything to me. We had an offer from Leeb on the table, an Austrian manufacturer. However, that fence was simply not worth it to me.

motorradsilke15 Jun 2025 22:07We have a sliding gate opener from Sommer, and I would not buy it again. It repeatedly causes problems, only partially opens or sometimes doesn’t work at all. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve had to manually unlock it to get out. This happens regardless of whether it’s summer or winter.
