Hello.

Why is the basement often made of concrete instead of masonry, even though the ground floor and upper floor are built with masonry?

On the ground and upper floors, you often see monolithic construction with bricks, while the basement has a multi-layer structure with concrete and external insulation, which the builders clearly chose not to use above ground.

What are the pros and cons of this approach?

Greetings from Swabia.

Well, concrete is more waterproof than stone.

And the reason why the ground floor and first floor walls are built from masonry is probably due to the flexibility of the walls.

Next point: Earth pressure

Not every stone likes that.
