Do they really last long-term or at least several years without becoming unattractive? You often see these with interior door suppliers because they can obviously look quite nice...
Our very inexpensive lever handle sets from Hornbach have now lasted 3 years without any signs of chipping or discoloration.
The set screws used to secure the handles seem to be rather small or something similar; they start to become loose after a short time.
I would expect that with a branded and more expensive set, this issue would be better, and the coating would be at least as good.
Our self-painted handle set on the front door (because the original only came in silver or white) unfortunately did not maintain its color well. I will need to consider a long-term solution for that.

Even with aluminum front doors, the fittings are not necessarily aluminum as well. Often the levers are, and like the door itself, they are powder-coated and highly durable. However, the pull handles on the exterior are more often made of polyamide with a steel core, and are dyed all the way through. Of course, scratches from keys can occur, but wear does not reveal a different color underneath. Anodized finishes, as far as I know, can only be dark brown at most, but never close to black. For interior doors, if handles are black, they are usually polyamide, with the most common brands on the market being from HEWI.
