ᐅ Drywall Soundproofing – What Do I Actually Need?

I would like to install three drywall partitions myself in our new house. It’s not much or difficult: three straight walls, each 3 x 2.5 meters (10 x 8 feet).

Now the question: what makes sense in terms of soundproofing?
The classic method is: a metal stud frame (UW profile), filled with glass wool insulation, and then covered with drywall on both sides. Is that enough?

One wall separates the bedroom from the children’s room. If my wife and I are sleeping, the kids shouldn’t necessarily hear us. (I would call it normal soundproofing; we’re not dealing with a band playing.)

Is the setup described above already sufficient, or should we do more? I keep reading about double drywall boards, meaning two layers. That would be significantly more work—does it make that much of a difference?

And one more question: how wide should the studs be—50 mm, 75 mm, or 100 mm (2, 3, or 4 inches)? What is common for an interior wall?

For better sound insulation, you can also use Heraklit or softwood fiberboard instead of glass wool.

I find the connections (floor and ceiling connections) on your drawing interesting. In the area of the roof, do you even have the possibility to properly secure the wall to the ceiling? Depending on the structure, sound transmission could also be an issue there.

Only the black wall (indicated by the arrows) is a stud wall – everything else is solid wood. On the floor, I can simply screw a metal profile into the solid wood (after first applying sealing tape).
The ceiling is a bit more challenging: here I only have traditional wooden rafters spaced 60cm (24 inches) apart. I’m wondering myself, can I just screw the profiles directly onto them? Is it a problem if the profiles end up slightly angled? (The roof has a pitch of 18°).

@Myrna_Loy: Heraklit and softwood fiberboard are considerably more expensive, right?

And one more question: What profile width would you recommend for the plan above?

Heraklit costs around 10 €/m² (10 €/sq ft).

Hawaphon is very effective against structure-borne sound. It is not cheap, but it does not need to be applied over the entire surface.
