Hello everyone,

I want to extend my existing Besta into a display cabinet and use the built-in LED spotlights for lighting, ideally recessed. It is recommended to use a hole saw for this. Do you think it’s a good idea to drill two 76mm (3 inch) holes in the top panel of those particleboard pieces, or should I rather follow the instructions and install the lights surface-mounted?

Looking forward to your feedback.

I wanted to create something like this for cable passages (the module with a finished one was too shallow for me). Why do you think it could be a problem? Or, what do you think might happen?

It might tear, break through, or something similar. I just found a picture – the hole looks neat. Maybe I’ll try that too sometime.

If you drill from both sides, nothing will break out. So, only drill halfway through, then finish the rest from the backside.
However, this only works with a hole saw with a pilot drill bit.

Of course, I destroyed the lid while trying to mill a hole in it. I'm just not cut out for such delicate work on this cardboard-like material – but the extension is still in place, including the lighting, whose cables wouldn’t have been visible anyway since the display case is so deep.

Funny… very old BESTA furniture… light gray wall, and I’m considering painting the cabinets gray/taupe…
