ᐅ Drainage Around the House: But How?

Dear building professionals

My wife and I are planning our new build. I would like to install a drainage system, but I’m not sure how extensive it should be. Is it enough to install drainage all around the house (like a moat)? What about the garden? I have a garden both in front of and behind the house. Or should I lay pipes in a serpentine pattern throughout the entire garden?

Thank you very much!

No, everything is still in the planning stage. I just wanted to be on the safe side.

So YES!?! Am I right in my assumption?
In that case, you shouldn’t take the final step before starting 😉

Well, it will be a prefabricated house.
This means that during the production of the foundation slab, the excavator and other equipment will already be on the site. Therefore, I would take the opportunity to carry out the excavation for the drainage system and cisterns at the same time.

ypg didn’t make it clear, but I think they meant the soil survey. -> So if you have any information about your soil conditions, please share it with us.

A drainage system is not installed arbitrarily. It must meet the specific requirements; otherwise, it may be unnecessary.

Therefore, a soil survey should provide the best indications regarding the necessity and the required specifications.

Exactly 🙂
Furthermore, with proper planning, the drainage system should ultimately connect to the downspouts and wastewater pipes, which depend on the wastewater design. This way, the drainage is determined based on the finished house and not just guessed during the excavation phase.

That was my plan as well, but I wanted to do some research on my own first. Recently, a prefab house company built the terrace with a slope toward the house… I would like to avoid issues like that.
